So, terrible mod is terrible. I'm afraid that I ran out of steam for running this community and neglected to wrap things up. As it's been a long time since the last round, I wanted to see if anyone out there would be interested in taking over the community and running it again.

If there are no takers, I'm fine with simply archiving the community as-is. However, if someone's interested, I'm also happy to pass the community along.

I've looked at the poll results, and it seems like a majority of respondents would like more time to work on prompts.

So, I'm going to bump the prompt entry period up from one week and overall expand the length of each round to roughly one month.

In the interests of keeping scheduling simple, I'm going to work the rounds around dates, such as the 'the first of the month' rather than 'the first Tuesday each month'.

So, here's the new proposed round schedule:

1st of each month: Prompts are posted
15th of each month: Entry submission closes
16th of each month: Voting post goes up.
20th of each month: Voting closes.
21st of each month: Winners go up.

1st of next month: New round starts!

There are three more entry rounds of Government Cats planned, as well as the final death match (which will be on a slightly abbreviated schedule, as there are no new entries for that round).

That's the plan for now, if you have any comments or queries, please drop a comment on this post! :D

Government Cats, I've noticed that participation is going down, down, down for both voting and entering. However, I'm really not sure why. So, instead of guessing wildly, I'd love it if you could take the time to fill out a poll or drop a comment on this entry!

It would be very much appreciated, so that I can determine either a) what changes I should make or b) if interest is so low that [community profile] governmentcontrolledcats should end earlier than expected. Right now I'm not sure which is the case, so please let me know through the poll or a comment!

Summer 2011

Here is my current concept draft for [community profile] governmentcontrolledcats. Feedback is greatly desired, so please chime in if you have a way to make this better or have spotted something you think is guaranteed to fail!

The Time Period: June 1st to August 31st

The Participants: Anyone can participate. People using DW, LJ, openIDs, or anonymous posting are welcome to participate.

The Rounds: Seven Rounds; Six two-week rounds and one 'death match' between the victors during the last week of August.

The Winners: Three winners per round. Winners will be determined by cumulative number of votes in the format of 'pick your three favorites.' Voting will be done by a ticky-box poll. Ties are allowed. Awesome banners will be awarded!

A Sample Two Week Schedule:
Wednesday June 1st – Wednesday June 8th is the submission period.
Thursday June 9th – Monday June 13th is the voting period
Tuesday June 14th winners are posted
Wednesday June 15th a new two-week round starts.

Structure of Each Round (except the Death Match): Five prompts (such as Shut: Llamas have been banned and the government controls accordians.) will be posted from the generator; One format will be specified. Each entry must be in the specified format and be in the form of a comment to the original prompt post, as well as include (in quotes) the selected prompt from the generator. Entries should be between 1 and 500 words long.

Things I Am Not Sure About: 1) How many times should someone be able to enter per round? I'm thinking three, but I'm not sure. 2) Should entries be screened or unscreened? Right now I'm debating between two options: 1) Have them all unscreened or 2) Have three screened rounds and three unscreened rounds in alternating order.

A question! Do writing prompts like this interest you?

Balance: Anger has been banned and the government controls Pokémon.

Glow: Coeduation has been banned and the government controls books.

Shut: Llamas have been banned and the government controls accordians.

Then you are in luck, because [community profile] governmentcontrolledcats will be an EPIC summer-long YA Dystopian Future Original Flashfiction Challenge. With prompts from [personal profile] telophase's YA Dystopian Story Generator, [community profile] governmentcontrolledcats will have six rounds! Three winners per round! Culminates in one death match between six rounds of victors! Coming Summer 2011!
