Prompt 1
Date: 2011-06-15 07:16 pm (UTC)no subject
Date: 2011-06-21 01:03 am (UTC)You wouldn't believe what happened! It all began with that damned Hector. Hector the older, that is; Hector the younger has sense. Government caught him with that book of crossword puzzles, you know, the ones from before. Don't know why he insisted on keeping 'em. You come across one of those things, you call the government folks pronto and they'll take them away, and Hector never understood that.
It's not like the things were harmless, after all. All a brainwashing attempt by foreign powers, trying to corrupt us to think against our country. Especially those cryptics he kept collecting, those British ones. I swear those things made him mad! He continually gibbered about codes and solutions and all those mad things that were used to turn loyal citizens into traitors. Really, it was obvious if you saw him, he had been driven insane by stuff humans were not meant to know.
Turns out he wasn't the only one after all! All the government had to do was dim the sun, and a whole bunch of them came out. Damn scariest things I've ever seen, people creeping out with puzzles in their hands, looking for solutions where there are none. Should know better, the government can answer anything, and is straightforward besides.
So, government caught a whole bunch of them! I feel sorry for Hector, the fool, but the others were nasty. Good thing Hector was never one for subtle, saved all of our lives.
Anyway, sun's dimming soon, but they promise a bright day tomorrow. Can't complain.
Yours in blessings,
Theodora

Re: Prompt 2
Date: 2011-06-22 11:03 pm (UTC)I am writing this to express my grave concerns for your health. You last missive indicated to me that perhaps tere was the faintest glimmer that perhaps not everything is as perfect as one would expect. Dearest, college is a time of personal growth and improvement and the tools which yield this increases in the quality of your character are difficulty and challenge. The best response, nay the only response is to meet these challenges head on.
We both knw full well that that in our heritage runs a defect, an ugly prclivity towards responding to stressful times with anything other than staunch stoicism and determination to overcome.
Do not allow the sadness which has taken your mother from us to take you from me as well. Even a glimpse of ameloncholy expression or a dour mood will be scrutinized and puts you at risk.
You are old enough to know now that how we feel is our choice not our fate. I have always beleived that your mother displayed a fundamental flaw in her character in choosing to engage her depression instead of rejecting it. Although I have long forgiven her for abandoning me, I cannot forgiveher for abandoning you.
Alas, after some thought I regret having written that last paragraph. That would be better suited to a face to face conversation than a letter. But it is written, therefre it is done. Please know that everything I say to you here is out of love and conern for your well being.
Love always,
Father

Date: 2011-06-15 07:17 pm (UTC)Re: Prompt 4
Date: 2011-06-22 03:39 am (UTC)I'm better now, thanks for asking. My cabin mate didn't survive, though. He had his lungs replaced too, but apparently somebody didn't do their work properly, and it turns out the place that replacement parts came from had been used to one thing or the other before being refurnished, and there were copper micro shavings laying around. They checked me and the rest of our team (the ones of us who went through surgery, that is), and apparently all of the mecha from that one factory is tainted. It means nothing to us (except for a 3 percent increase in our retirement bonus, which is sweet), but Gio was allergic. That's bad luck.
We're still on North Panthalassa, which is to be expected given the size of the thing, but getting closer to Laurasia as days go by. We'll likely make many stops at the Hunchback Fire Rift, as recent tectonic magma activity has been recorded in the past two months, and you know how rebels are. And please don't worry, the General says the hydrophones have been fixed and we won't have to depend on sonar solely as last time. Also, remember that the work we do is important for the future. I might be your child, as you often repeat, but I'm also Hans Majestäts Soldat.
I fear I might not be in time to see your work before the Bureau picks it up. Maybe you can hire an artist to make a drawing of it? You know how proud it makes me, I'm always telling my crewmates about the Reticella my Mother does, and how you are the only one with the required permissions in Gondwana. I hope Dad's qualifications on Punto in Aria are going satisfactorily too. I was sorry to hear his exams were delayed once again.
I've been thinking about what you wrote me last time, about retirement. I mentioned it to the General last night and he said most soldats leave the Flotta after their first long tour, and that it is to be expected given the level of risk encountered. But he also mentioned the number of new recruits was at its lowest this year. I'm not sure as to what should I choose. As you know, it has never been an intention of mine to make this a career. My dream has always that to be a lace-maker as you and Dad, but as the Bureau has been adamant on the issue of new licenses, I was left with no choice.
I am not waiting for you to die to take your place, Mom. I'll rather try to become a War Hero and send my application again.
Ah, the sun is setting, I have to say goodbye. I send you all my love, please share it with Dad.
Your son,
Heinrich.
