Any interest in taking over the community?

Mon, 17 Dec 2012 16:48:14 GMT

Posted by: boundbooks

So, terrible mod is terrible. I'm afraid that I ran out of steam for running this community and neglected to wrap things up. As it's been a long time since the last round, I wanted to see if anyone out there would be interested in taking over the community and running it again.

If there are no takers, I'm fine with simply archiving the community as-is. However, if someone's interested, I'm also happy to pass the community along.

Fandom Auction to Help Somalia

Wed, 21 Sep 2011 03:53:43 GMT

Posted by: boundbooks

Off-topic, but I don't think you guys will mind. This fandom auction seriously needs some help getting the word out! Spreading the word would be greatly helpful. Go here for promo banners.

Link: helpsomalia | FAQ | Snail Mail | Arts & Crafts | Miscellaneous | Words | Audio | Graphics | Requests

Description: "You've probably heard by now, twelve million people are facing a hunger crisis in the Horn of Africa, and they are in desperate need of help. U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton went on record saying is the most severe humanitarian emergency in the world today and the worst that East Africa has seen in several decades. The United Nations declared a famine in parts of southern Somalia, calling for a widespread international response to end the suffering.

Thousands of Somalis have been fleeing the country each week in search of food, water and shelter. The lucky may find their way to refugee camps in Kenya and Ethiopia. However, even with these refugee camps nearly half a million children are at risk of dying from malnutrition and disease.

helpsomalia hopes to raise funds to help provide relief organizations with funds via a fandom charity auction, much like help_japan, helpthesouth, and other similar communities."

Due date: Auction posts will open on Saturday, August 20th, 5:00 PM GMT and offering up goods/services is still welcome; ~~Auctions will close on Saturday, September 24th 2011 at approximately 9pm GMT.~~ Saturday, October 8th at approximately 5pm GMT.

Voting for Round 5: A Tea Party for Automatons

Sun, 18 Sep 2011 23:30:20 GMT

Bad mod is bad mod! So, due to my absolute lateness in getting the voting post up on the 16th and instead posting it on the 18th, I'm going to extend voting to September 25th, 2011.

Voting's open for Round 5: A Tea Party for Automatons. Anyone can vote! Voting is not restricted to community members or entry writers.

The Voting Procedure: Since there are only four entries, voting will be done by selecting your most favorite and least favorite. Most favorite gets +1, least favorite gets -1 to their cumulative score, with the cumulative score determining ranking.

The Voting Period: September 18th - September 25th. Voting closes on 11:59PM United States East Coast Time on Sunday, September 25th. If you're not on United States East Coast Time, you may find the World Clock to be handy. Refer to 'New York' for current United States East Coast Time.

Note: I would have liked to make the poll open to anonymous voting, but DW apparently does not allow that option. In order to vote, one has to be logged into DW via their journal or openID.

Poll Results and Changes

Wed, 13 Jul 2011 23:34:26 GMT

Posted by: boundbooks

I've looked at the poll results, and it seems like a majority of respondents would like more time to work on prompts.

So, I'm going to bump the prompt entry period up from one week and overall expand the length of each round to roughly one month.

In the interests of keeping scheduling simple, I'm going to work the rounds around dates, such as the 'the first of the month' rather than 'the first Tuesday each month'.

So, here's the new proposed round schedule:

1st of each month: Prompts are posted
15th of each month: Entry submission closes
16th of each month: Voting post goes up.
20th of each month: Voting closes.
21st of each month: Winners go up.

1st of next month: New round starts!

There are three more entry rounds of Government Cats planned, as well as the final death match (which will be on a slightly abbreviated schedule, as there are no new entries for that round).

That's the plan for now, if you have any comments or queries, please drop a comment on this post! :D
